The Department of Gastroenterology, FRPMC is located primarily in PAF Hospital, Base Masroor. Its objective is to provide
quality care and services to patients with gastrointestinal disorders. In addition, the department is also committed towards
delivering required and up-to-date knowledge and values in the field of gastroenterology to the undergraduate, and in future,
postgraduate medical students. The departmental hierarchy comprises of a Head of Department currently an assistant professor,
a senior registrar and a medical officer. It is a five-bedded facility with a provision of 15 additional beds if required.
Critical patients are managed in a combined ICU setting shared between medical and surgical specialties. Daily rounds are
being conducted by at least one of the faculty. Out-patient’s clinics are being run twice a week at PAF Hospital, Base
Masroor, and once a week at PAF Hospital, Base Faisal. There is also a dedicated room for endoscopic procedures, where
elective and emergency procedures both upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopies are to be performed. Curriculum for
undergraduate medical student teaching has been prepared in accordance with the guidelines in consensus with the department
of medical education. The curriculum syllabus includes both formal and informal teaching modalities. The students will be
rotating in the department for specified days of the week as per their clinical schedule. Additionally, their assessment will
be performed using objective criteria and students will be given a form at the end of rotation regarding feedback of rotation.
